There are so many reasons which can make a person leave dairy. If you want to rise up against the cruelty or you are lactose intolerant or you want to lose weight or your body is facing any other issue like IBS due to the dairy, you can give yourself a break from dairy and dairy products and opt for several other options available like almond milk, cashew milk etc. However, i have personally tried just one of these so called non-dairy milk so far, and i actually happened to like it. The rich, creamy and nutty flavour of almond milk has made me to use it again and again.
To be honest, it will not give you that flavour and texture which you are used to have from ages but it is totally worth to replace it for so many above said reasons. Now, coming straight to the point, i definitely do not prefer store-bought almond milk for obvious reasons and due to my habit of trying everything to make at home, i tried making almond milk for the first time and believe me, it turned out to be the best. I mean, not that i have tried various other versions of almond milk to compare mine with others, but i liked it and can continue to drink it. So, here i am sharing the recipe of homemade almond milk. You guys, please give it a try and let me know what do you think about it. I hope, you will like it.

Recipe
Ingredients:
2 cups almonds
1/2 tsp salt
8 cups of water
Method:
Put 2 cups of almonds in water and put 1/2 tsp of salt in it. The salt will actually help to break all the barriers/dormancy and make all the nutrients of almonds available to our body easily. Mix well, cover and let it soak overnight or for 6-7 hours.
Wash the almonds properly next morning and put them in the grinder to grind.

I would suggest you to grind the almonds with 1 cup of water first to make sure that there is no big piece of almond left.

Now, add the remaining water and pulse one more time. You will get this frothy and creamy milk.

Now, sieve this milk through a cheese cloth. I like the little coarseness of the almond in my milk. So, i have sieved it through a sieve net. If you want a silky smooth texture, you can use cheese cloth or muslin cloth.

You will get this almond meal left at the end. You can use it in baking or can easily add to your smoothies, shakes or oat meal as well.

Now, finally you get your homemade, delicious, creamy and frothy almond milk. Be free to use it in your oatmeal, in your shakes, smoothies, tea or coffee etc.
